The Houston Texans are a team with a lot of question marks on offense. The Texans’ identity is with the defense and J.J. Watt. They will win games, and possibly the division, by what the defense does or does not do during the season. The production from the offense could be hit or miss.
Must Draft Players
- Lamar Miller – Running Back
- DeAndre Hopkins – Wide Receiver
Everyone expected that when Lamar Miller arrived in Houston he would become a high producing running back. After all, the Texans like to have a work horse running back, and Miller didn’t have a lot of mileage on him since the Dolphins sparingly used him. What we got was 14 games that totaled 1,261 total yards, 31 receptions and 6 total touchdowns. At 13.8 points per game, that’s not exactly what Fantasy Football owners were hoping for when they took Miller at the end of the first round in 2016. If Miller can replicate that production in 2017, as a third-round draft pick owners will be much happier!
Speaking of disappointing Texans from last season, let’s talk DeAndre Hopkins. Hopkins was taken as the fifth wide receiver last year after posting 111 receptions for 1,561 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2015. He finished last year with 78 receptions for 954 yards and 4 touchdowns. He scored 8.5 fewer points per game on average last season. What was the change you ask? Brock Osweiler. Osweiler is a terrible quarterback, and now that he is gone I believe Hopkins will get back to having better production and be a steal on draft day.
Players You Should Probably Be Drafting
- Will Fuller V – Wide Receiver
In the 3 of the first 4 weeks of the 2016 season, Will Fuller looked like he was going to be a force to be reckoned with in Fantasy Football. He averaged 5 receptions for 100 yards and a touchdown in those games. Aside from those games he never had more than 5 receptions or 60 yards in a game, and scored no touchdowns after week 4. Again, the passing offense for the Texans was crap last year with Osweiler at the helm. I’m willing to take a chance on Fuller this year as the quarterback play can’t get any worse!
Players You Could Draft If Your Rosters are Deep
- Deshaun Watson – Quarterback
- D’Onta Foreman – Running Back
- Alfred Blue – Running Back
- J. Fiedorowicz – Tight End
Deshaun in the future of the Texans. He was drafted 12th overall for a reason. I’m not sure he will start the year under center for the Texans, but my guess is that by at least week 8 you will see him as the starter. You won’t need to draft him on draft day, but you should keep an eye on him.
Lamar Miller is the starter for the Texans and will receive the majority of the touches. D’Onta Foreman was drafted this year and Alfred Blue is a player that has had success for the Texans in the past. Before recent events I would have told you that Foreman is the handcuff to Miller, but since he has had a run-in with “the law”, it could be either him or Blue as the handcuff. Hopefully you can get the handcuff on the cheap when it’s finally determined.
The only thing Brock Osweiler did right was get C.J. Fiedorowicz involved in the offense. Not since Gary Kubiak and Owen Daniels has there been fantasy relevance at the tight end position in Houston. Now that Osweiler isn’t throwing him the ball, I’m not convinced that Fiedorowicz will be that relevant for Fantasy Football owners. He’s worth keeping an eye on, but that’s about it in my opinion.
